12 Days of Christmas: Holiday Home Tour | Three Kings Day Countdown

Hello and New Years Eve blessings to you!

It’s been a little bit since our last moment together and I look forward to filling you in on all that I’ve been up to.  Thank you so much for checking out the last #FLLS12DaysOfChristmas blog and guest editorial about managing grief during the holidays.  It was a very timely piece, as I took some time away from blogging and usual social media use yesterday to honor my late father’s birthday (he passed two years ago).  It was much needed time spent with family and the ones who matter the most.  Moreover, I had an opportunity to indulge in more “Caribbean tings” for the holidays and ended the night on a great note (like a young school girl yapping on the phone, curled up blushing and entangled in the cord.  Ha!  I’m sure some of you ladies can recall those days).  Hallmark movies and Law & Order closed out the night.

But speaking of Caribbean tings, I have a fun fact to share with you.  In our family (as in most West Indian families and/or Caribbean culture), we celebrate the holidays through January 6th for “Three Kings Day.”  This international holiday represents the day that the “Three Wise Men” gave gifts to Jesus Christ after his birth.  And so, the tradition of keeping holiday decorations up in our home until Three Kings Day has been maintained for many years.  So much so, that a certain someone (who shall remain unnamed) keeps her decorations up for another five days until she has recuperated from celebrating her birthday.  No judgment. Lol!

So while they’re still up, let’s talk holiday home decor.  This year, I said I wanted to go for a minimal effect.  And while I didn’t quite achieve that, I’m happy that I was able to curate the holiday aesthetic I wanted for each space in my one bedroom apartment, without going overboard.  Without further ado, here’s a quick look at how I decorated my humble abode for the holidays.

Foyer – Entryway

For my foyer, I wanted to keep things similar to the natural and woven elements already existent in this entry to my home.  Brown woods adorned with winter greens and pops of white and cream.  Every entryway should have a great focal point and for me, it’s this gorgeous tribal-inspired mirror for checkups on the way out.

Kitchen

For the kitchen, the only thing I desired was a “winter wonderland” with more of the aforementioned natural elements.  Flocked baby trees, white linens and woodsy brown.  There’s a lot of adoration right now modern farmhouse decor but I’m not really into the farmhouse aesthetic.  My love for woods, brown earth tones and woven textures is a direct reflection of my Caribbean heritage. Yet, I wanted to deviate from my norm and add some wintry vibes throughout.

Living Room

If you’ve been following me on Instagram (@faithlovelifeandstyle) then you’ve probably seen several sneaks peaks of my living room.  But!  Let me state that this space is still a work in progress and the holiday decor has been a beautiful way to camouflage that.  Disclaimer: these pics were taken prior to receiving an 8’x10′ area rug and the mounting of the flat screen TV.  I captured so much content throughout the decorating process that I figured “Hey!  These pics are amazing enough to work with.”  Who cares?  Life happens.  And in this case, an emergency travel departure happened too.  Enjoy!

Bathroom

My holiday bathroom decor is as simple as it gets … counter top decor and nothing more. I wanted to keep the modern hotel vibe of white linens throughout and clean lines going. The only thing is, I completely forgot to put the larger guest towel back out.  Let’s see if you can find the empty spot. Lol!  Added a cute sparkly tree that I found in Home Goods and some faux frozen stems from Michael’s  and there you have it.  Minimal holiday decor in my at-home spa.  Stay tuned for an upcoming project in this space.

Bedroom

And last but least … the bedroom.  Yes friends, we’ve come to the end.  Remember I said “humble abode” in the beginning, so quit acting that.  Haha!  City life isn’t cheap and long gone are the days of home ownership in the southern suburbs.  Well, not too long ago.  I’m adamantly focused on doing it all over again, but until then … this gorgeous and tranquil bedroom will do.  Let’s get into it!
