Style on Repeat: One Romper Four Ways

Style on Repeat: One Romper Four Ways

Happy Wednesday loves!

October is in full swing and I am still tripping’ about how quickly the year is going by.  It’s like I need a moment to sit and process everything that’s happened (the good and the bad) while looking onward to the months ahead.  How about you?

Needless to say, amidst all the hustle and bustle, finding ways to create more time for ourselves is imperative.  And so, I am in the process of building my very first wardrobe capsule.  But, I am curating one that will take me from fall to winter.  Yes!  I’m already looking at ways to save time through the winter months, by streamlining my closet now.  The way I see it, it’s never to early to plan on saving time (or money).

Here’s how it started …

An unapologetic style junkie and bonafide fashion lover, I dabbled with the idea of trying out a clothing subscription box a few years ago.  Then I finally took the leap and invited my girlfriends to join in on the experience.  From receiving wardrobe samples at my front door to going into stores’ style clubhouses to fit and shop, I tried it all (or so I thought).  I couldn’t quite adjust to the practice of shopping this way.  From high prices to tracking packages containing a full-on wardrobe, I told myself that it wasn’t for me.  The idea of these platforms enticed me but I couldn’t push myself to stick with them.   Shopping online (for pieces here and there) had become my normal approach versus the good old in-store shopping trip, and I was convinced that I would be faithful to the former.

But then one day (in 2016) I decided to give a well-known subscription service called  Stitch Fix a try  … and it changed everything for me!

Here’s how it works …

First, you complete your personal “Style Profile.”  StitchFix will then used your selections to guide your personalized  stylist in understanding your style needs, sizing, preferences and the price range in which you want to spend.  This took about 10 minutes or less to complete.  Next, you pick the date you’d like to receive your shipment.  Then your stylist chooses five (5) items to send to you, and you are charged a $20 styling fee.  BONUS: This $20 is applied to your final purchase (toward anything you decide to keep).

Once your package arrives, you have up to three days to try on everything in the comfort of your home, before deciding what you want to keep and what you don’t want.  StitchFix will charge you only for the items you choose to keep when you check out online (or through the free Stitch Fix app). Another BONUS: If you decide to buy everything, you receive a 25% discount off the entire box (minus that $20 styling fee you already paid).

What about returning the pieces you don’t want?  Returning them is super easy — thanks to the prepaid envelope provided by StitchFix.   Shipping is free both ways!  ADDITIONAL BONUS:  If for some reason you need to extend your return shipment, Stitch Fix will allow you to communicate this with your stylist ahead of time.

What I also love about this wardrobe styling service is that you get to keep your stylist updated on everything from your style preferences, occasion needs, and even change in clothing size.  Stitch Fix encourages feedback on the items you receive explaining on the site …”Telling us what you liked, didn’t like and why helps your Stylist know what to send in future Fix deliveries.”  And it’s so true!  The more feedback I’ve given, the better and better my “Fixes” get.  NOTE: no membership fee or a monthly subscription is required to try it out.

Okay! So I probably sound like a total Stitch Fix groupie … I am lol!

But here’s a FINAL BONUS reason why you should try them out.  You have the option to set up recurring shipments and they will automatically schedule the delivery date for your next Fix shipment.  PLUS you can log in at any time and choose a different date as needed or stop your regularly scheduled shipments (I updated mine to arrive once a month).

Last month I scored big with a fabulous floral-print romper (by the brand Kaileigh) that gave me not one, not two, not three, but four awesome looks!  See how I styled it below …

WorkDay Casual

While not the typical 9 to 5 look for me, this was one of my best workday fits.  My office is business casual (heavy on the casual) but your girl likes to “dress up.”  So I don’t follow the norm everyday.  This day, I had so many back-to-back meetings yet I felt like I could do cartwheels in this romper.  Soft, silky and so roomy!  For this workday casual look, I topped it off with a plaid blazer, colorful earrings, my favorite gold necklace and some white ballet choked slip-on sneakers.

After 5

This is me after a long day at work after 5PM.  Lol!  This is also me feeling excited (as seen earlier in this post) about where I was headed  … the DC Fashion Week Fashion Industry Networking Party with NextGen Designers at The Living Room DC in Washington, DC.

A fall-worthy olive green duster tied-up around the waist, cute accessories and some on-trend lilac slingback heels did the trick.  It was a fashionable night to remember!

Local Tourist

I rocked this look during a day of museum hopping and sightseeing with my girlfriends from out of town.  I wanted to go for comfortable, casual style with a mix of patterns/prints.  Give me a roomy tote bag and some chic, flat mules for city exploration any day.

Date Night

A grainy but a goodie, this picture captures the true essence of me getting dressed on a date night.  I call it indecisiveness in rare form.  Haha!  Can you relate?

Accessories are an absolute fetish of mine but my recent quest to become a minimalist creates for a few hiccups when getting ready.  To finish the look, I pulled together a few of my favorite Stella & Dot pieces (paired with a retired necklace and clutch from previous seasons) for some extra glam.  For makeup, I kept it basic with a fresh face and a vibrant lip (makeup details on my Insta @faithlovelifeandstyle).

So yes, I’ll admit that I am a true Stitch Fix fan.  In building a wardrobe capsule, I originally wanted to include traditionally noted pieces for a minimalist … neutrals and solid tones that could be interchanged frequently for a variety of looks all season.  But the flowers y’all!  This floral-print romper has given me endless options for my fall wardrobe and there’s still more to come!

A dose of style and inspiration for living!™

With love,
