A Short Story

Somebody come get me …
I have a new addiction.

This summer I have challenged myself to try new looks, including one traditional summer piece that has NEVER been a popular option or favorite of mine. *insert eyeroll*
Summer shorts.

Each time I attempted to try a pair, it was always something lol …
“Too short … Too long … My thighs rub … It looks like I have a wedgie … Wait, these are chaffing me … I can’t. I just can’t.” LOL!
Then the month of June hit and I decided to give them another try. From fashion magazine to fitting room, I found myself beginning to obsess with various plays on textures and tones for this traditional summer staple. Denim, crepe, high-waisted, fringed, ripped denim, embellished, printed, solids, flat-front, elastic waist and pleated.
Obsessed.

Recently, I’ve had a blast styling shorts with fun, color popping heels and other accessories. But it wasn’t always as simple as “jouging” them up with extras. I just couldn’t get into shorts because of my self-perception of the way that I looked in them.

For the past few weeks, I’ve made some vital changes (I’ll save that for another post lol) that have, in turn, had a major impact on the way I feel each day … and it’s showing.
*adds body lava oil to legs*

I’m reminded that style and fashion shouldn’t really be about what it looks like (to others) on you, but moreso, how the piece(s) make you feel. In essence, how your style [choices] make you feel.
A gentle REMINDER for us all …
When you feel good, you look good. And feeling good (or great, for that matter) shows. You’ll carry the look with you and that confidence will show.

Here’s to more fun summer styling and endless days of sunshine and warmth! Have a happy 4th of July holiday and thanks for visiting my blog!

I feel you Mary on the shorts. I had a hard time starting to wear shorts too. It was always something with my knees or my calves . I just did not like how they looked on me. Until my trip to Ja 2016. I finally started wearing them with some coaching from my daughters and coworkers…I finally did it. You are right. Once you I felt good about what I choosed…I knew I looked good. Great article.
Thank you Levelle … so happy that you could relate! It’s so refreshing to let go of style hangups and try something new, only to end up loving it. I’ll be looking for your summer short pics on social media! 🙂 #VIstrong
