Weekend Scene to Work Space

Weekend Scene to Work Space

Ever found yourself fantasizing about the weekend and what you plan to do?  I’m sure you have … we all do.

Now imagine getting lost one weekend, in a beautiful neighborhood, just a short drive from where you live.  It’s quiet but busy, reclusive but very lively.  And it seems like there’s so much to do.  Options include shopping from an array of boutiques and chain stores, dining, visiting museums, strolling by outdoor art exhibits,  making pottery (and more) at an art gallery, chilling and relaxing at a waterfront park, hopping on a water taxi to other local attractions, shopping at the local farmer’s market or just simply capturing as many pics and cute selfies that you can while there.  Sounds like heaven right?

A few years ago when I moved to the DC metro area, a friend was taking me around for a tour of the local area and drove through this quaint and cozy neighborhood.  We stopped at a traffic light and made a left onto what seemed like an enchanted little corridor.   White decorative lights draped from the trees for what seemed like miles and miles ahead, and people moved about the brick stone sidewalks and cobblestone streets, in and out of cute boutiques, bustling coffee shops and curb-appealing restaurants,  It was all so inviting.  All I could do was smile with excitement … about discovering Old Town, Alexandria.

The gorgeous brownstones and brick renovated bungalows streamline the streets of Old Town in a variety of shades, each rendering individual curb appeal.  Many of the colorful clusters remind me of “Rainbow Row” in Charleston, South Carolina.    The distinctiveness about the homes as well as the renowned front doors also added magic to my perception of this romantic neighborhood.

Months later and I am still in love with this place.

What was initially a subtle leap to exploring new territory, as a newcomer the the DMV area, has quickly become a fixture in my weekends.  That is, what was once my weekend go-to for all things food, shopping and exploration eventually translates to my “weekend office.”

From coffee dates with fellow bloggers and creatives, to creating photo content for my social media platforms, I am always in the area frequenting my favorite restaurants, chic sophisticated barristers, cozy coffee shops and a couple popular cupcake shops who delight in my excitement to patronize them weekly.

In addition, I now find myself going there to shoot with my photographer, Karen of KSheree Photography.  She has truly helped me to come out of my shell and to have fun behind that camera.  I absolutely love the fun that I have shooting with her.

When we create in Old Town, the magic is on a whole different level.  The charming homes and historic buildings always make the perfect backdrop(s) and street style is always a win.

Creating content in front of beautiful doors has also become a thing.  We’ve even made some new friends.

Yes, this is one of our new friends. Lol!

Hey girl hey!  Catch all this extraness during one of my sessions with Karen of KSheree Photography … not sure what I was looking at but I love it.

All in all, journeying out allows us to discover new communities or rather, a subset of the larger communities that we live in. In some cases, this practice could lead to formed business relationships, partnerships with local business and an opportunity to create content for yourself.  Whatever your reason, get out and explore.   There is so much to be seen and discovered.

Get up, go out, wander and make new connections!
